Early in this century, Malacca was referred to as the "King of Canes." Malacca is one species of rattan (Calamus Ascipionum) found on the coast of Sumatra. Rattan palms have long, slender stems and are perfect for fashioning.

The stem is not round, but has a ridge or spine, often called a "teardrop", running along its length. It is very light-weight, yet strong, with no two specimens being alike. The stem is made up of links with joints, or nodes, at both ends like a bamboo. The bark is strong, with what appears to be a satiny, natural gloss or surface glaze.

The Brigg Ladies' Malacca Traveller umbrella boasts a detachable handle for easy storage and transport. This Malacca cane, two-piece, travel umbrella features a plated gold collar.

The umbrella canopy can be made of choice of colours of nylon or black silk, attached to a 20" rib frame of high tensile strength. Boasts the distinctive Malacca wood handle, grown in the Straits of Malacca, Malaysia.

  • Two piece assembly: handle, Birch wood shaft, tip
  • The handle detaches from the umbrella; can be packed into a suitcase or holdall
  • Standard size 20"
  • Canopy available in silk or nylon
  • Features a Plated Gold Collar
  • Can be engraved on the plated gold collar at the cost of £20.00 per initial
