From beloved umbrellas and hats, to leather bags that have travelled the world, our famous restoration service will bring them back to life.
All of our products are made with craftsmanship perfected over decades, and with that we can offer full restorations and repairs to all of our goods. This can also cover products that are not our own.
Due to new restrictions, you can deliver your item to our London Piccadilly store by shipment, and our team will make sure your item is delivered safely to our workshops to be assessed.

When shipping your item, please include your name, email, telephone number and return shipping address clearly stated inside your parcel, including a brief explanation of what you wish to be repaired.
Please state very clearly to your chosen courier that it is a repair. If not, your item may be held at customs, and we are not responsible for paying any customs charges for your parcel to be released.
Upon its safe arrival in our store, our team will contact you to inform you of its assigned repair docket number, to which it will then be sent to our workshops for its assessment. Your quote will be sent to you from 1-2 weeks of its arrival.
If you are happy with your quote, we will need a 50% deposit paid before our craftsmen will be notified of the go ahead to your repair. If you have any queries about your quote, our team will happily go through all the details with you, and no work will be carried out without your permission.
Our lead times for repairs is 6-8 weeks from the go ahead.
You will be notified when the repair is safely back in store, and is ready for its return shipment.
Our craftsmen have perfected their craft for decades, and their superior knowledge means our repairs are highly sort after. However, there are always limitations, so please do read carefully the following information about our repairs. When our specialists work on restorations, there is a risk that the item in question may incur damage despite all their best efforts. Please discuss your repair with our team to make sure you are aware of all of the risks that might apply to your item.
Swaine Adeney Leather Goods
We recommend all leather products have a clean, feed, stain and polish when in our workshop. Leather needs to be fed regularly every month to prevent the leather from drying out and to assist in waterproofing the leather. Once the leather becomes too dry, there is a risk of it cracking, and from there a higher risk of it tearing. Our perfected process of feeding and cleaning the leather with heat and length of time, is often vital for the leather’s longevity. Our staining process can reduce marks and scuffs on the leather, but it will never reduce them completely. A clean, feed, stain and polish will never be able to make the leather look “like new”, but it is certainly a very important part of caring for your item so it will continue to last.
If there needs to be any replacement leather in your restoration, please note it will not be a perfect 100% colour match. Our craftsmen have collections of leather dating back many years, so they can try to colour match as close as 99%, but there will always be a natural difference as the leather will be new, in comparison to the worn leather on your item.
If your item is a very old Swaine Adeney item, or not a Swaine Adeney item at all, there is always a risk that we will not have the same/original fittings. If this is the case we will offer you a substitute that will be approved by you before the restoration starts.
If your umbrella is not a Brigg umbrella, there is always a risk that we will not have suitable fittings for its repair. If this is the case we will do our best to offer you a substitute that will be approved by you before the restoration starts, or in some cases we will not be able to carry out the repair at all.
As standard we are not able to repair any automatic umbrellas.
If you own a very old Brigg umbrella, we may find that your original frame may not match our current frame sizes. If this is the case, we will offer you our new frame with further information for your approval. Please note that this will mean you will also need a replacement canopy to fit the new style frame.

Herbert Johnson Hats
Our skilled hatters will exercise utmost care in processing items entrusted to them and use such processes that they will feel are best suited to the nature and condition of each item. Nevertheless, our hatters cannot assume responsibility for inherent weaknesses of or defects in materials that are not readily apparent prior to processing. This applies particularly, but not exclusively to, fur felts, wool felts, felt blends, suedes, leathers, hatbands or any other accoutrements attached to the items to be cleaned, blocked or repaired. Please be aware that wear and age can affect the suitability of a hat and its components for repair and may not be discovered as such until the process of repair is underway.
Should an item or component perish during repair processes we can, if appropriate, quote for replacement of said perished component with new or alternatively we reserve the right to halt repair and return the item.
Our hatters will use reasonable efforts to try to ensure that cleaning, blocking, repair or other hat related work is maintained at a high level of quality.
Herbert Johnson accepts no liability for damage due to normal wear and tear or shrinkage during cleaning and drying of said hats. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee removal of all stains when carrying out cleaning.
We cannot guarantee against damage of weak and perished felts, fabrics, leather and components when undergoing repair processes. We also ask each customer to please determine whether they can accept the risks and therefore the potential loss of any item sent into us for repair.
